Laha Tourism Village, Ambon, Maluku, has made a remarkable achievement by winning third place in the Developing Village category at the Peak of Recognition for the Best Tourism Villages in Indonesia.
Laha Tourism Village, Ambon, Maluku, made a brilliant achievement by winning third place in the Developing Village category at this prestigious event. This success also places Laha Village among the top 50 best tourist villages in Indonesia this year, an extraordinary achievement supported by various development programs.
As a fostered village of the Global Environment Facility 6 Coastal Fisheries Initiative (GEF6 CFI) Indonesia project since 2023, Laha Village has shown significant progress. One of the main factors supporting this success is the development of environmentally-based creative products, such as ecoprints, resulting from intensive training within the framework of the GEF6 CFI program. These environmentally-based products are not only a tourist attraction, but also reinforce Laha Village's commitment to environmental sustainability.
CFI Indonesia's PMU team accompanied the exhibition of Batik Ecoprint, Negeri Laha's flagship product, at the Peak of Appreciation for the Best Tourism Villages in Indonesia.
The series of ADWI 2024 events began on Saturday, November 16, 2024, with a Strategic Partner Collaboration Forum aimed at bringing together various parties to support the development of tourism villages in Indonesia. The next day, Sunday, November 17, 2024, the Top 50 Indonesian Tourism Villages Display was held in the Car Free Day area around Grand Sahid Hotel, Central Jakarta. Laha Village also took advantage of this opportunity to display some of their superior products, including ecoprints, which became the main attraction for visitors.
The peak event was held in the evening at the Tanah Airku Theater, TMII, with the announcement of champions from eight categories. Menpar Widiyanti gave high appreciation for this achievement. “Village tourism is a grassroots program that supports the tourism sector, shows the warmth of Indonesian people, and promotes the beauty and diversity of our culture to the global arena,” said Menpar Widiyanti, who looked elegant in a navy kebaya with a Solo-style bun.
In ADWI 2024, a total of 6,016 tourist villages from all over Indonesia participated, a significant increase compared to 1,831 tourist villages in 2021. After a rigorous curation process, 50 best tourist villages were selected and announced at the summit night.
Minister Widiyanti also announced Indonesia's great success at the international level with Jatiluwih Tourism Village in Bali and Wukirsari Tourism Village in Yogyakarta winning the UN Tourism 2024 Best Tourism Villages award. “This is the first time that two Indonesian tourist villages have achieved this achievement in the same year,” she added.
Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for the 2020-2024 period, was also present accompanied by his wife, Nur Asia Uno. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the younger generation in the management of tourist villages. “We hope to produce great young people who are able to bring our tourism villages to become champions, both at the national and international levels,” he said enthusiastically.
The event, hosted by Indra Herlambang and Ersa Mayori, was also enlivened by entertainment from Project Pop, NTT singer Silet Open Up, dangdut singer Fitri Carlina, contemporary dance of Daida Dance Crew, and the harmony of Gita Bumi Choir.
With the success of Laha Tourism Village, ADWI 2024 is clear evidence of how tourism village development programs can encourage innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness in the global arena.
