CFI INDONESIA ATTENDS GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP CONSULTATION IN ROMA

cfi-indonesia.id. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) through GEF 6 CFI Indonesia attended the FAO invitation in the framework of Coastal Fisheries Initiative (CFI) Global Partnership Consultation (GPC) activities on July 23 to 26, 2024 at the FAO Office, Rome, Italy.

The CFI - GPC activity is a routine meeting to discuss the implementation of GEF 6 projects including the exchange of information and best coastal fisheries management practices in 5 GEF 6 recipient countries namely Indonesia, Peru, Equador, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Cabo Verde;

Indonesia is one of the recipients of GEF-6 grant for the period of 2019 to 2026. This grant is intended to support improved fisheries management in WPP 715, 717 and 718, as well as KKP's priority programs.

The MMAF team together with GEF 6 CFI Indonesia attended the FAO invitation in the framework of CFI - GPC activities on 23 to 26 July 2024 at the FAO Office, Rome, Italy.

This meeting was not only attended by 6 (six) CFI countries, but also attended by Global Environment Facilities, FAO, World Bank, WWF, related NGOs/Project Managers such as: EAF Nansen, SSF Project, and Green Cities. The Indonesian delegation consisted of 7 people, namely the Expert Staff of the Minister for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs, Inspector II of the Inspectorate General, Director of Fish Resources Management of DJPT as the National Project Coordinator of CFI Indonesia, and the management of GEF 6 Indonesia.

The meeting was utilized by the Indonesian team to explain the blue economy policy, especially the measured fishing policy. FAO appreciates the fisheries governance transformation policy that is currently being carried out by Indonesia.

In addition, FAO also appreciated the progress of the GEF-6 Indonesia project, especially in co-management of fisheries in the form of Sasi in Southeast Maluku and Wondama Bay districts and empowerment activities of fisherwomen who have produced eco-print products and processed foods from Sasi. Both activities are considered as best practices that can be applied in other countries.

Indonesia has the opportunity for GEF project sustainability funding in the period 2027-2032 by focusing on activities that support MPA/Blue Economy Priorities focused on the management of selected Species: small pelagic fish, large pelagic fish, demersal fish, reef fish, penaeid shrimp, lobster, crab, crab, and squid in certain Zones or WPPs.
