Director PSDI Syahril Abd. Raup officially opened the meeting to formulate the Annual Calendar of Fisheries Management Institutions (LPP) for Indonesia’s Fisheries Management Areas (WPPNRI) and delivered his direction at the Komnas Kajiskan Meeting Room, Mina Bahari II Building, 14th Floor, KKP (May 7, 2025).
The hybrid-format meeting was fully supported by funding from the CFI Indonesia GEF 6 Project, as part of the commitment to support KKP’s Priority Programs, particularly the Measured Fishing (PIT) program, which includes national fish stock assessments and PIT quota setting.
This activity followed up on a previous meeting held in Bogor at the end of April and served as a key forum to coordinate and align fisheries management plans across regions at both national and local levels.
In his opening remarks, the PSDI Director stated that the Ministry will facilitate KOMNAS Kajiskan. The immediate agenda includes the inauguration of the new KOMNAS Kajiskan office located on the 14th floor of Mina Bahari II Building. This effort reflects the commitment to strengthening institutional coordination and prioritizing the national data system.
“This meeting continues the discussion from last week in Bogor. We want to ensure that all activities, both at the central and regional levels, are well-connected, especially in monitoring and supervising the action plans,” said Raup.
The PSDI Director also encouraged active involvement from all stakeholders, including UPTs, local governments, universities, and NGOs, in providing fish stock data and participating in scientific studies. This collaboration is a vital foundation for supporting science-based fisheries resource management policies.
“Field coordination often poses challenges. Therefore, I urge every LPP in WPPNRI to develop a clearly and systematically structured annual calendar, considering the extensive action plans that need to be organized properly,” he added.
The work plans discussion and presentation of WPPNRI’s LPPs during the meeting to formulate the Annual Calendar of Fisheries Management Institutions (LPP) for Indonesia’s Fisheries Management Areas (WPPNRI) were attended by the Director of PSDI, the PSDI team, PMU CFI Indonesia GEF 6, and attended virtually by WPPNRI’s LPP UPP representatives nationwide along with members of KOMNAS Kajiskan. During the meeting, Executive Coordinators of WPPNRI’s LPPs submitted their proposed work plans, which will be facilitated by CFI Indonesia. A coordination meeting for WPPNRI’s LPP 718 was proposed for May 2025 in Makassar. Similarly, WPPNRI’s LPP 717, which through PPN Head Kamarudin, proposed an activity in Makassar in October 2025. Meanwhile, PPN Ambon proposed that the coordination meeting for WPPNRI’s LPP 715 be held in Ternate in August 2025.
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Indra Jaya, Chairman of KOMNAS Kajiskan, expressed his appreciation for the meeting. He emphasized the importance of such forums in accelerating the implementation and synergy of KOMNAS Kajiskan’s work plans with the WPP’s LPPs, while also facilitating PSDI's coordinating role.
“We’ve assigned KOMNAS Kajiskan members to coordinate and supervise each WPP’s LPP. I believe this breakthrough will significantly assist KOMNAS Kajiskan. Data management will improve, fish stocks will recover, and the positive impact will reach communities as well. God willing, we at KOMNAS Kajiskan are committed to supporting fisheries management in each WPP’s LPP,” said Indra.
